BRYAN SALAZAR
I began my journey as a woodworker when I was a small child by observing the design and problem solving process of my dad’s custom kitchen business among other commissioned projects. Most importantly, I was the shop helper; picking up scraps and sawdust and just being curious about the function of all the tools in the shop.
My first real commissioned piece came from my wife and muse. What began as building something out of necessity, grew into a passion for designing and building custom handcrafted goods. The process of visualizing the piece within the wood, aligning the grains, preparing for the glue-up, cutting the mortises, tenons, and finger joints, brought back all those years of hanging out the shop and the experience I had gained.
I’m drawn to the patterns and randomness of wood grain and the story each tree holds. The goal for each piece I design and create is to capture the individual beauty of every piece of wood, whether displayed on a finely finished piece or hidden in rough sawn board being repurposed from a past life. The journey of creating from what nature has provided is much like our journey in life. Recognize the beauty in everything and you will be surrounded by beauty.
